No GPX routes will be provided as this race is run under FRA rules,
it is a fell race (not a trail race) and that the core principles of the sport such as
self-sufficiency and self-navigation are paramount (with use of GPS etc being strictly

Introduction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Exterminator is traditionally the fifth and last race of the annual Totley AC series of five races and the route is quite complicated with several route choices. It is recommended that make yourself familiar with the route before race day. The race is run over varied terrain including road, track and footpath through woodland, fields and open moorland, villages and hamlets. This is a challenging race with some great views (and some great climbs) and stunning scenery<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You are encouraged to come on foot, by bicycle or by bus if you can. The 97 bus to Totley from Sheffield High Street stops a five-minute walk from the start. Get off at the Cross Scythes pub on Baslow Road and walk down Hillfoot Road to Penny Lane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Postcode for sat-nav: S17 3AZ.  Limited off road parking is available and will be signposted on the day. Once the car park is full limited on road parking is available but please consider local residents and avoid parking across or opposite any drives or gateways, or damaging grass verges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The race starts at 10:30 am prompt. On race day, the number collection process will open at 09:00 and close at 10:15<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given the length of race and time of year we also highly recommend carrying water. There will be two water stations on the course but we do not provide cups. Therefore, please also carry your own cup or bottle!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The race starts and finishes outside the Totley AC pavilion which is at the top of the field behind the Cricket Inn (SK301799). On race day limited showers and changing facilities are available.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Facilities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We have toilets, showers and changing rooms which are free to use on the day. You are welcome to leave your possessions in the Pavillion\/changing room but we do not have any secure facilities for this and they will not be monitored.

Water <\/strong>– please bring own cup or bottle. Single use plastic cups are not provided for water.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you’re lucky we might even provide free snacks\/lots of cake after the race. Please feel free to hang around and enjoy this, and support other runners once you have finished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parking<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Parking availability is very limited near to the race start and will be provided on a first come basis.  We cannot guarantee any parking on the Cricket Pitch (pending weather) so please make plans ahead of your journey to park elsewhere. If you arrive at the race and we are not able to park you on the Cricket Pitch, you may have to park further away from the start which will take time. If possible, please walk, cycle or get public transport to the race.  If this is not possible then try to car share.  If you do need to drive, then we have attached a map of places locally which do have some free roadside parking.  Please note that parking is not permitted on Penny Lane, Lane Head Road, Moss Road or Strawberry Lea Lane, therefore leave plenty of time to get parked up and to the race start. We will not delay the start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entries and Transfers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This race allows for pre entry and will also have entry on the day. Pre-entered runners should collect their numbers at the Totley AC pavilion from 9 am on the day of the race. Pre entry option will also be available from 9am at the Pavillion. You must neither start the race using a number obtained in someone else\u2019s name nor give your number to someone else to use in the race. We do not offer a number deferral policy and can swap numbers until online entries close in the week before the race.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Please note CP 8 and 9 will both have clips which all runners are required to punch their number with. There will be a really obvious orange and white flag for you to clip your number. These will have different markings and all numbers will be checked at the finish to ensure all competitors have visited these check points. Failure to finish without visiting and punching\/clipping at these check points will result in a disqualification from the event. Both of these CP clips will be clearly visible and not hidden. Previously runners have claimed they did not see or could not find these – they will be very obvious, and if the majority of other runners can see\/find them, the onus will be on you to do this also!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Race Day<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This race is held under FRA Rules and runners must familiarize themselves with and comply with the FRA Requirements for Runners 2020 (the \u201cRunners\u2019 Rules\u201d).<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has a distance of approximately 17 miles, 26 km with a total climb of around 1,066 metres and is therefore an FRA category B Long (BL) race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FRA Best Practice Kit is mandatory<\/strong>  (Waterproof whole body cover (taped seams and attached hood) + hat + gloves + map + compass + whistle + emergency food). Use of GPX is prohibited for navigation. Anyone found to be using GPX will be disqualified.
Mandatory kit inspections will be performed on race day. A further check may be undertaken on completion of the race \u2013 anyone completing the race without the required kit will be disqualified and reported to the FRA.
Your race number must not be folded or cut down and, at the start, all checkpoints and the finish, must be clearly visible on your chest; failure to show your number at these points may lead to disqualification.
Entrants may not take dogs on the course
Some road crossings will be marshalled checkpoints but competitors are responsible for their own safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
